About half of Koh Pha-Ngan's total population of 10,000 live in and around the small port town of Thong Sala. This is where the ferry boats from Surat Thani and Samui ( Na Thon) dock, although there are also smaller boats from Mae Nam and Bo Phut on Samui that moor at Hadrin.
The town sports several restaurants, travel agents, clothing shops and general stores. You can also rent motorcycles here for 150-250 Baht per day, aswell as Jeeps for touring the island.
